I’ve been wanting to start an herb and vegetable garden for several years but, like MOST of the things in my life, I begin researching and searching, googling, asking people, and and and, until I overanalyze it to death and find myself up to my elbows with sticky notes and print outs from the internet BUT nothing to show for it months later!
Well, I decided to just go for it and met with Daniel Wolfe with Organic Lawn Solutions for where to start with my garden. He became my “soil guy” when I said goodbye to fertilizer and other chemicals for my yard. More on that whole issue in another post. Check him out if you’re in need of a good compost tea etc.
I then made a trip to Kingwood Garden and bought everything I needed and planted cilantro, parsley, rosemary, and basil in a whisky barrel and used Ground Up for soil and added a handful of MicroLife in the bottom before I put the herbs down and voila! I have a cute little herb garden there for my “popeye punch” smoothies in the mornings and rosemary and basil to add to my spaghetti sauce.
It’s so cool to cut the cilantro and watch it grow back in a few days! I have a difficult time finding the organic cilantro from time to time so now I’ve eliminated that problem.
My advice to you is to just do it! Try something small like an herb garden or a single potted plant, test the waters, and “grow” from there.
